TypeLogic Relationship Archetypes — MBTI Pairing Chart

This chart maps the relationship archetype between every pair of the sixteen Myers–Briggs (MBTI) personality types. Find one type in the left column and the other across the top row — the cell where they meet names the dynamic between them. For example, an ENFP and an INFJ land on Pedagogue, while two of the same type share an Identity relationship (highlighted down the diagonal).

The framework comes from the Jungian-function analysis popularized by TypeLogic: it compares how the dominant, auxiliary, tertiary, and inferior functions of two types line up, and what that tends to feel like in practice. The table is symmetric — the relationship between A and B is the same as between B and A.

The archetypes, defined

IdentitySame types: a typological mirror-image.
PalWork and play well together: minimal natural type conflict.
PedagogueEach is both the other's mentor and student: has a “parent to child” feel.
AdvisorEach has an area of insight that the other lacks.
CompanionSimilar modes of expression: bear each other's company well.
ComplementCompatible strengths with opposite emphases.
SupplementLike Pal, but functions are farther removed: each can add to the other's strengths.
CohortMutually drawn into experiential escapades.
TribesmanShare a sense of culture, but with different interests and abilities.
AnimaFits Dr. Beebe's description of the anima/animus: each is the other's inferior (4th) function.
ContrastPoint and counterpoint on each function.
CounterpartPerform similar functions in totally different realms.
EnigmaA puzzle: totally foreign in nearly every facet.
NeighborArrive at the same place by variant processes.
NoveltyIntriguingly different: interestingly so.
SuitemateA person one might be comfortable sharing an office with. Prefer similar climates, but don't necessarily have much in common as far as goals or world view.
